VE80 Celabrations

On 8th May the local community came together to mark the national VE80 celebrations

As with the Coronation and the Jubilee before that, it was good to be able to chime in with the national mood and offer a place for celebration for this significant event in history. The heritage displays were insightful and atmospheric. Recently uncovered, top secret links between Woughton on the Green and Bletchley Park were on display and residents shared memories, medals and memorabilia of family who served in the war.

The bells rang out at 6:30pm for a special peal, which marked the start of the celebrations. People brought fish and chips and the community gathered to listen to live music and songs from the time. Our thanks go to The Fabulous Miss Jones Jazz Trio who headlined the evening. Thank you also to the enthusiastic organising committee, made up of local residents and members of St Mary’s Church, who alongside the Parish Council, came together and made the event possible. It was really well attended and great to see lots of people engaged and enjoying themselves.

The building was full at points, so the estimate of about 70 people was about right, although let’s call it 80! Every part came together and created another unique event that will hopefully live long in the memory of those who attended.

We are always seeking to make things better so please do feedback ideas for next time!
