Woughton Wander

St Mary’s Church, Newport Road, Woughton on the Green, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK6 3BS

A guided walk led by Tim Skelton around the village of Woughton on the Green. We will look at the new development, how it blends with the existing village and learn something of the various proposals which, for a variety of reasons didn’t get built.

The deserted Medieval Village of Woughton on the Green is one of the heritage treasures of Milton Keynes. It was therefore with considerable care that Milton Keynes Development Corporation planned the adjacent housing to recognise both the village itself and the adjacent Linear Park. The walk will look in particular at the celebrated housing scheme by John Winter in Lucas Place, as well as work by other architects, such as Wayland Tunley, David Tuckley and Bob MacDonald who were an integral part of the development of private housing in Milton Keynes in the 1980s. It will also consider schemes by Richard MacCormac and MKDC itself that did not get built.
